Platelet Rich Plasma

Why use Platelet Rich Plasma?

PRP is used for skin rejuvenation, acne scars, periorbital rejuvenationlipofilling, and can help with reversing certain types of hair loss. PRP is used by athletes to speed the healing of injuries in the knees, hips, and shoulders, and other areas of the body. PRP contains concentrated  proteins from your own blood, which, when injected into an are accelerates the bodies natural healing mechanisms.

WHAT IS PLASMA?

Plasma is the largest component of your blood, making up about 55 percent of its overall content. The primary purpose of plasma is to transport nutrients, hormones, and proteins to the parts of the body that need it.

WHAT ARE PLATELETS?

Platelets are tiny cells that circulate within our body and bind together when they recognize damaged blood vessels. Platelets are made in your bone marrow along with your white and red blood cells.

WHAT IS PLATELET-RICH PLASMA?

Your blood is made up of four main components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Platelet Rich Plasma is a platelet concentrated component from your own blood that contains nutrient rich cells and protein growth factors.

HOW IS PLATELET-RICH PLASMA PREPARED?

Platelet Rich Plasma is produced when a small amount of blood is drawn and placed into a sterile, disposable container and then, spun to separate the platelets from your blood sample, resulting in a platelet-rich plasma.

IS PLATELET-RICH PLASMA SAFE?

Platelet Rich Plasma is safe because it comes from your own blood, therefore there is minimal risk for allergic or immune reaction. Platelet Rich Plasma preparation must be conducted by a trained medical professional.

What to Expect from PRP Treatment

PRP injections are made from your own blood, so the first thing that will happen is a blood draw. We will take your blood and spin out the plasma and prepare it for injection into the treatment areas. While we are processing your blood we will apply a topical numbing cream to the areas we will be treating.

Typically the process takes 45 minutes to one hour.

You may start to notice changes right away since PRP speeds up healing, typically you should notice changes in one to two weeks.

How Many Treatments are needed

It depends on the person and what we are treating, For most six treatments are all that is needed. But in some cases it could take eight to twelve followed by one or two maintenance treatments during the year.

How Long is the Recovery Time?

Generally, none, or very little. Since it is an injection in to the face or scalp, there are typically no restrictions and you can go about your daily routine right away.

You should, however, avoid the sun, and not wear makeup for several days after each treatment.
